Will there be men at the studio or male instructors?

No and No.  It is certainly not that we don’t like the men in our life but we have to have some privacy somewhere – right?  Actually, this is a program strictly for women and because of the very nature of the workout and dance it needs to be a place where women feel safe to be completely open and free with their movement.  We do have gift certificates that men can buy for their wives or girlfriends and this is exactly where we like their involvement!  By the way, many men we have talked to have said they would be afraid to buy the woman in their life a gift certificate because they don’t know how it would be construed.  If this is something you would enjoy as a gift please let him know.

What do we need to bring to the classes and what should we wear?

We would like you to bring a yoga or pilates mat.  We also sell mats so if you need one we will have them at the studio.  Most students wear regular workout clothes – yoga pants, tank tops, etc. for the warm up and if you like as we start learning the routine and the “walk” you will probably want to bring the 6” platform high heels and  something that makes you feel sexy to change into.  Or stay in your workout clothes – many students choose to do that until they get into a higher level and feel more adventurous and comfortable.  The one item most of you will want to get is the 6” platform high heels.  Yes - they are very difficult to walk in at first!  But practice makes perfect and everyone else is in the same boat as you.  The shoes are almost a must and you cannot believe how it transforms legs!  Of course they are not healthy for everyday wear but who would do that?  You can purchase shoes and other miscellaneous items from our website or at our studio.  There is also at least one other local shoe store that carries these type of shoes but please do check out our online boutique so you get the full gist of the type of shoe you will need.

*** Please do not wear any kind of lotion to class ***

Do I have to take off my clothes?

Absolutely not.  Actually there is no nudity allowed in the studio.  We do teach routines which will involve the art of the strip tease but you need only take off what makes you feel comfortable.  We encourage layering your clothes so you can learn the techniques of the strip tease but this is all about discovering your own inner sensuality at your individual pace in a safe and non-threatening environment.

What if I am not a good dancer or well coordinated?

This is not a typical “dance” class per se.  If it were we as the owners of the studio would not be taking the classes either.  This program is a combination of fitness and exotic movement.  The core movements of exotic dance will be taught and the art of turning your brain off and feeling the wave of the music and letting your body slowly move with the wave.  Every single woman regardless of age, size, beauty, fitness or coordination has her own sensual erotic goddess within.  We help you discover her and how to allow her to express through slow sensual movement.

How fit do I need to be?

Everyone starts as beginners at level one.  This offers both the fit and the not so fit an avenue to becoming healthier, stronger and more flexible.  It is decidedly more fun than running on the treadmill at the gym and in our opinion having fun is the very best way to fitness.  Even within the level one classes there is a small range of intensity.  Some classes will be gentler while others a little more challenging.  So call and talk to us when you sign up about where you would feel most comfortable.  We have something for everyone!

I think I will be embarrassed because I am too old, not pretty enough, not thin enough, (you fill in the blank).

We repeat and it is worth repeating - every single woman regardless of age, size, beauty or fitness has her own sensual, erotic goddess within.  We have been trained not to be in touch with that part of ourselves and to compare ourselves unfavorably to the “perfect woman” as defined by our culture.  Stop and think about how you dislike different aspects of your bodies – too fat or too thin, too big busted – not big busted enough, derriere’s too small and flat or too big – we could go on for days!  Then stop and think of your friends and no matter how beautiful you might perceive them to be - do they complain about their bodies too?  Of course, we all do!  Isn’t it time to stop being so critical of ourselves and start celebrating our bodies and our femininity and enjoying each other instead of feeling we need to compete and compare?  We think so.

What about the poles?  They look like fun but I can’t imagine doing the kind of tricks I see on television and I am afraid to even try – is it mandatory?

To begin with, nothing is mandatory.  Saying that however, many of the tricks you see are easier than they look.  You do need to develop body strength and confidence to perform many of the tricks but this is a fitness program and that is our goal.  Some people may never lift their body off the ground while others will fly!  They both can look beautiful.  The complexity of the pole tricks will increase as you move up in the levels of classes but there will always be modifications if needed to accommodate the individual student and allow everyone to move up in the levels if they desire and still have a successful experience.  Our plans at this time do allow for at least two of the higher levels to be strictly advanced pole moves.  So again we have something for everyone.

You say you have 9 levels – do we have to go to all of them to know how to dance?

No.  We teach a different routine in each level so you will know how to “dance” after only one level.  You can move up and learn different and varied routines and movements or you can stay in any level or quit altogether after one level and still know the basic movements.  Of course, we believe you will have so much fun you will want to keep coming.
